I'd love to club the clubbers.

Seal doesn't do much clubbing now that he and Heidi have a family. I think that's good.

95% or more of harp seals taken are actually shot with a high powered rifle. If you ask me, it's actually more humane to use the hakapik since it guarantees an instant death. It's also harder for the sealer to do which in turn helps limit the number taken. Animal rights activists wanted the rifle over the hakapik...they got it. That just makes killing faster and easier but not necessarily more humane. Now there's efforts to ban a commercial hunt that's regulated. The DFO has long ago said that if the commercial seal hunt ended, a cull will replace it to manage the overpopulation. Unrestricted killing of a set number of seals per year. Way to go animal rights groups...you just set back animal welfare groups and an entire ecosystem back a long way.

It's a better and more humane method of seal hunting than hunting by rifle. The seals that are clubbed die relatively painlessly with crushed skulls whereas those shot often are only wounded and slip away to die slowly. Since a controlled hunt or a cull is the only way to control the booming population of harp seals, the killing should at least be done in a reasonable humane manner, like clubbing. It looks bad. But it IS efficient and humane.
