  • My recollection growing up is that we recited it because we we're told to and didn't want to get into trouble, not out of any genuine heartfelt expression of patriotism. Furthermore, as an adult, I 'pledge allegiance' to NO flag. The flag is just a symbol.   • i dont know about the rest of the country but i refuse to say it not because of religion though i just hate the US and would never pledge anything to such a hypocritical nation
  • I can't remember anytime that the US reflected the values in the Pledge, and I don't just mean the "under god" part.
