It is fairly unrealistic that somone would die from the use of such devices. This does not mean that they are safe to use. The way in which microwaves work is that they heat up water molecules, cooking the food. A large percentage of the human brain is water, and therefore such devices can be harmful to humans after prolenged use. The use of mobile phones next to the ear also cooks the brain, thus the concerns of users developing cancer are valid.

You can die from microwaves, but fortunately most microwave ovens are too small to fit inside.

Not Likely. Microwaves operate on a very high radio frequency to cook the food and the unit shuts off before the door opens. Microwaves are very safe unless you have a pacemaker. These high radio frequencies will interrupt the rythum of the pacemaker and damage the unit causing a heart attack. Computers, plasma televisions and CRT's emit an extremely low amount of radiation that will have no effect on the human body even if you watched television for 18 hours a day for 50 years. The radiation would be a very low amount of damage that the human body could adapt to.

    The answer is no

Microwave technicians in WW2 would stand in front of aircraft

and tune the transmitter by feeling the heat generated in their

bodys. The microwave power levels were millions of times that of

a modern microwave oven. They did not die . (Some later developed

    cataracts and reproductive problems.)

Modern CTRs have only a fraction of the radiation that the 1950

    tv set had .

Flying on a modern airline exposes you to hundreds of times the

radiation levels that either of the other devices do.(I still go).

Just use common sense and error on the side of safety.

But hey, what do I know

Excess exposure to many forms of radiation can be hazardous to your health. That said, you do not receive much from televisions or computer displays, both of which are CRT devices. Many studies have found these devices to be safe, although most were done in an age before people sat two feet from a ascreen for eight hours a day and then went home to watch television for another two or three hours. However, any serious problems that may have developed would have produced very specific medical conditions in a readily-identifiable segment of the population. This has happened in some cases (e.g., carpal-tunnel syndrome among frequent users of keyboards), but not for any life-threatening diseases.

Microwaves, on the other hand, are more dangerous. It is emportant to ensure the door seals on your microwave are clean, so they can work properly. The door should fit tightly and, if it is loose, the oven should be discarded or repaired. I also think it best not to stand six inches from the door, peering in at the contents while the microwave is running. If you are really concerned, you can purchase a microwave leak detector - an electronic device that retails for about $50 - to test your own microwave oven.

The design of a modern microwave oven reliably prevents radiation from being emitted, but the user needs to do some basic maintenance to ensure they stay that way.

    Addendum...

One of the other posters stated "Microwave technicians in WW2 would stand in front of aircraft and tune the transmitter by feeling the heat generated in their bodys. The microwave power levels were millions of times that of a modern microwave oven. They did not die . (Some later developed cataracts and reproductive problems.)"

I disagree. One of the professors I had in my post-secondary education was involved in radar research during WW2. He said that every time the dish swept past you, you could feel your body warming up. He had maintained contact with several members of this group over the intervening years and said that many of them had died from various cancers, often at a fairly young age (e.g., <50). When he was about 60, he succumbed to cancer and rapidly passed away, convinced it was related to the radar emissions. The death rate from cancer among his co-workers was abnormally high.

Despite a low rating given by some individuals who have invalidated many natural or organic or non-toxic solutions, there is some very good data in this answer which might assist someone. It is worth reading and one can investigate and observe for themselves first-hand.

As a sidenote: In the 50's you could walk into a shoe store and stick your bare foot inside a "box" with a viewer. It would X-ray your foot. For real!!...I am old enough to remember. There is no telling who went sterile.

Radiation does accumulate within a body. Radiation also affects chemicals which are in the body. Different electronic equipment emit a type of radiation. After awhile it could affect an individual adversely. A good observation is looking at people who have had years of sun exposure. A self-demonstration is taking the B vitamin Niacin (not the alterated vitamin, niacinamide). A flush will turn on and often one can see old sunburns or past exposures appear at various parts of the body. Radiation emissions from electronics and power lines can hurt a body after awhile. As an example, it is not all that uncommon to find deformed (like two-headed) calves resulting from grazing near heavy power lines. Talk to a fellow who has lost his hair and will tell you his body is a wreck (and you can see it dramatically) and he is at a loss on what to do because power lines were erected above his home...but he can't win a lawsuit really since it is a public utility.... Another example, is some people notice an "exhaustion" or fatigue when around TV's or computers for extended periods of time. There are radiation filters offered for some monitors. Depending on a person's tolerance and body's health, the longterm unhandled exposure of radiation could contribute towards the person becoming more susceptible to a whole host of ailments or cancer or whatever. There are "Purification Programs" available which are closely monitored with a regimen of vitamins, sweat and exercise that help a person to eliminate harmful toxins and radiations from the body. Pretty amazing results which could assist someone to get better and overcome the adverse toxic effects of radiation accumulated in the body. As a sidenote here: there are some people in society who do not want others to get better, be more aware, improve, give or receive help. Rather, they are bent on elevating themselves while trying to invalidate others. One can see this by some of the comments made by a few raters. Their intention is not designed to better or try to improve conditions.

And again for the critics...take 500mg of niacin or more and watch your skin...or talk to some fellows who have worked the lines for awhile with power companies...or just observe what happens with your body close to monitors for awhile (different phenomena will occur). Investigate first-hand and research with follow-through and open observation for yourself. Don't take my word for it...or any authority, without seeing how it could be true for yourself from your own study and direct observations. You can conduct your own experiments and investigation. Just a simple thing like taking your cell phone near a monitor or TV can reveal the audible effects of waves and their interference. But there are many more experiments and observations that you can do.

Something which is easily noticable is that radiation accumulates in the body...otherwise those many people who have died from radiation poisoning could have "washed it away" through the body's system. People who have been exposed to a lot of X-rays or radiation treatments are physically hampered by the toxic build-up and its effect on other toxins. The radiation from electronic devices is just a different form and is not as intense as some forms, but it certainly can damage a person's health indirectly or directly in the long run...often prompting other body ailments.... There are methods to help eliminate the build-up of radiation in the body...that is another story.

It is unfortunate that some people are so critical and invalidative of information designed to improve health and vitality and general well-being. This kind of cynicism could possibly adversely affect the health of others... and has throughout history.

Here is my answer to the question: "Can extended use of a computer in a hot room cause headaches?" It has some more data. "There could be many reasons for a headache and I will list some here. When you have the correct cause and remedy, of course, you will find your headache is gone."

"Radiation could be part of the factor. The sun, TV, computers, etc. emit radiation. Radiation accumulates in the body and, of couse, is not good for a body. There are "shields" which can be put on the computer screen which block harmful radiation emitted (Cathode-Ray Tube). [On a CRT, a beam is shot directly at your face, hits a screen on its way.] Different electronic equipment can produce various types of radiation. You probably notice the radiation from various electronics when you try to talk on a phone while close to certain electronic equipment. Try to have a wireless phone conversation a foot away from your computer screen...you will get static. There are amendments which can be done to reduce exposure to radiation and if this works to stop the somatics, then you know what the cause is. There is some information at this website which purports even LCD as emitting radiation:
    http://www.biof.com/safetech.html
There are some health programs out there to help a person rid himself of the accumulated radiation using the B vitamin Niacin to flush out the radiation. Pretty amazing...I have seen people turn on sunburns from 20 years prior showing their tan lines at that time. These programs are monitored with proper proportions of balancing vitamins and regimens. Niacin can restimulate cancer if just done briefly with an inappropriate follow-thru."

"Of course, there could be many factors which elicit a headache, and a hot room surely could. Poor ventilation or oxygen supply will give anyone a headache. Everything from inadequate salt/potassium balanced content in your body, to the restimulation of unpleasant conditions of the past, to phenomena regarding study or the absence of mass when reading a lot significance, to fixed attention on a set distance for an extended period of time, can cause headaches. You are in a hot room. You may want to just try a little potassium supplement from the grocery store. It balances the salt (sodium) content. When people sweat, they loose their salts and need to replace them. Headaches commonly occur when the salt content is out-of-whack. Working outside here in Texas, I try to take some sea salt and potassium gluconate after/during a lot of heavy sweating. It also keeps one from becoming too "exhausted". Try heavy sweating with and without -- you will certainly notice the difference."

"Headaches can be spawned by a huge variety of different things. By trying different remedies, you will know when you get the correct one because the symptom will be gone. Ha!"

Here is just a brief copy of one article on cell phones. It relates in some ways because of the electronic radiation factor. CNET.com March 8, 2005 "Critics claim the cell phone industry, just like the tobacco industry (Big Tobacco), seems determined to prevent and deny any suggestion that its products might be dangerous; however, years of negative research may prove otherwise.
For example, one study showed that radio waves from mobile phones definitely damage DNA and other cells in the body, and that the damage extended to the next generation of cells. Another research case in particular delivered quite a blow to the cell phone industry: The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association hired a man to head up a $28-million research program into possible health effects from cellular phones. Findings revealed that heavy cell phone users experienced:
    · An increased rate of brain cancer deaths
    · Development of tumors
    · Genetic damage
Ironically, the cell phone industry has not commissioned another large-scale study, at least not publicly, since. Why? Because the cell phone industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry that can't afford to find out that, ultimately, cell phones are dangerous. Moreover, similar to Big Tobacco, the cell phone industry will be opened up to large liability claims if they were to start issuing warnings and precautionary tales now, which opens up the possibility that they knew the danger of radio waves all along." There is also evidence of how blood cells are altered.

There are various "forms" of radiation. Even many computer cables have an attached device to the cable to prevent the radiation from reflecting itself on another cable. It has been proven many times that radiation (electrical waves and otherwise) can affect and alter chemicals (especially toxins and metals) which are in the body.

In essence, your cell phone is a radio. When you talk on your cell phone, your voice is transmitted from the antenna as radio frequency radiation (RFR) between 800 MHz and 1,990Mhz. This frequency falls in the range of microwave radiation and, when you are exposed to it, there is a significant chance you can have serious health consequences.

However, a report in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet, considered to be the most comprehensive and well-referenced report on this topic to date, warns that the dangers of cell phones can NOT be dismissed. Specifically, these studies suggest that using cell phones can lead to problems such as:
    • Headache
    • Sleep disruption
    • Neuroepithelial (tissue in the brain) tumors
    • Alzheimer's Disease
    • Parkinson's Disease
    • Altered memory function, concentration and spatial awareness
    • Other forms of cancer

Contrary to popular belief, research conducted by British consumer research magazine Which? has shown that hands-free cell phone kits can significantly INCREASE your brain's exposure to radiation.

A ferrite bead is simply a hollow bead or cylinder made of ferrite, which is a semi-magnetic substance made from iron oxide (rust) alloyed with other metals. It is most commonly used with computer cables, where it is slipped over the cable while the cable is being made, or snapped around the cable in two pieces after the cable is made. In a typical computer system, found in a home or office, you will see these "bumps" on the mouse, keyboard and monitor cables.
Ferrite beads work by reducing the RFI (radio-frequency interference) created by these cables. Without the beads, these cables can act as nice, long antennae for the signals they carry. The signals they broadcast can interfere with radios and TVs, causing the sound and/or picture to go fuzzy. The cables can also receive signals and transmit them into the computer, where they cause problems. A ferrite bead eliminates these "broadcast signals." Essentially, it "chokes off" the RFI transmission at that point on the cable -- this is why you find the beads at the ends of the cables.

A good reference is the engineering magazine: Compliance Engineering. http://www.ce-mag.com/archive/02/11/may.html

One scary statistic: 70-80 percent of the energy emitted from the antenna of a mobile phone is absorbed in the head, according to a University of Washington scientist.

The British-based National Radiological Protection Board has some very interesting studies on exposure to household electronics.

But you can find out for yourself through research and observation and determine what is true for you. Don't just rely on an "authority".

Radiation can alter the characteristics of chemicals in the body and "activate" toxins. See the report on cancer by the nobel prize scientists. Toxins accumulate in the body. Click on my name or do a search to find out more about this. Of course, toxins are not healthy for a body, and any scientist or person with common sense will tell you that chemicals not made for the body are unhealthy for the body. This easily can affect the body's natural system. It also can affect a person's general disposition and personality because of the "drug" affects altering the body's system.

This is a cool report and you can click on a person's picture to find out how an average person or a high profile professional has been accumulating some chemicals...there are more than what was found. "In a study led by Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, in collaboration with the Environmental Working Group and Commonweal, researchers at two major laboratories found an average of 91 industrial compounds, pollutants, and other chemicals in the blood and urine of nine volunteers, with a total of 167 chemicals found in the group. Like most of us, the people tested do not work with chemicals on the job and do not live near an industrial facility.

Scientists refer to this contamination as a person’s body burden. Of the 167 chemicals found, 76 cause cancer in humans or animals, 94 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 79 cause birth defects or abnormal development. The dangers of exposure to these chemicals in combination has never been studied." http://www.ewg.org/reports/bodyburden/es.php
