Question

Help answer this question below.

What do you think of someone who refuses to be identified as either gender, but wants to be called "ee" or "im" instead of "she", "he", "her", or "him"? Would you do it? (This person's gender has not been adjusted, but wants to avoid social expectations.)

Honestly? I think that "ee" has a little bit too much time on "is" hands. That being said, I'm all in favor of calling people whatever they wish to be called as a matter of common courtesy. This, however, really does strike me as someone who wants to abide by none of the rules of social discourse and needs to just be up front about what it is ee wants instead of indulging in intellectual masturbation under the guise of being a trendsetter. Just my opinion.

More appropriately, why not combine the three "she, he, and it" into one: Shit. As a he, that's where I think we're going anyway. Check out Roger's thesis:

I would say they just wanted attention. I would respond by not giving them any.

I say to each their own. If it bothered me I would just avoid them.

I'd like to punch them in the face and scream "you are not original, you are not smart, you are not more different or more interesting than anyone else, stop trying to differentiate yourself in pathetic ways and just be yourself."

I probably wouldn't no. It strikes me as being prissy and pretentious (just on the surface anyway) - and a touch self-important. Folk like that get boring very, very quickly.
