Yes. For a time his children lived a "normal" Saudi lifestyle until he took them to Afghanistan in the late 90's. Osama’s first marriage was to a seventeen year old Syrian girl. Some reports claim he has numerous wives and has fathered about 50 children. Others reports say he has four wives and fifteen children. Five of his children, including his eldest son, Abdullah live in Saudi with their mother who left Osama in the mid 90's. No one really knows for sure the actual number of wives and children, which show the unimportance given to women in Saudi culture. According to Islamic law a man cannot have more than four wives at a time. Born 1957 to a Syrian mother, Osama bin Laden was the seventh son among fifty or more brothers and sisters. His mother was a bit defiant and did not always "obey" household rules so Osama became known as "son of the slave." His mother was ostracised from the other wives and Osama was her only son.
