I condone it and wish the same for the US. Education is key to your life as an adult and since dummies don't get jobs, it is in the best interest of all first world nations to have a more educated group of youngsters as we lean toward a service oriented society where education is smiled upon and sheer brute force or work ethic is not. I would make High School Mandatory and I would make the minimum age that a parent can kick their child out of their house to 20 + Govt. aid if times are tough on the family. We live in a new age and that demands new measures.

I think it would be a good idea if they started to stream children as they used to, It is silly trying to make a non academic student study the same subjects as an academic. I believe at a certain age they should go into either an Academic course or a Technical course which would in effect prepare one set for University and the other for Technical College or Trade school. Some will of course drop out but there should be some incentive to pupils to stay on for further Education and the government must continue to pay the benefits to the family while the child is in full time Education. In Cuba you have the incentive of Go to University or Spend an Extra year in the Army. Maybe we should also bring back conscription Minimum certainly no less than sixteen, personally I think they should then go to trade school for at least a year.

I think the minimum age for leaving school should be 18. 16 is way too young. What's up with this idea of not being "motivated" to go to school? There's no choice here. College/university should be a choice but not high school. I recognize that not everyone is a scholar, nor should they be. But everyone needs to learn the basics because everyone needs to work. If a student is truly finding high school difficult, fine then go to a trade school afterward instead of a university. Low or non-skill jobs are disappearing in the US and western Europe. It you haven't even finished high school what kind of a job can you expect to get? In today's job market people need to be better educated not less and the sooner parents and kids realize this the better off we all will be. Why are so many skilled foreign workers finding highly paid jobs in the US and western Europe? Because some of our kids aren't "motivated" to finish school. People had better wake up. Everyday I hear stories about people who are now unemployed because their employers have closed up shop or move to eastern Europe and everyday these people have no idea what to do because they have little or few transferable skills. I have little sympathy for them. The days where you would find a job and hold it until retirement are long gone.
