  • One reason could be that your xbox is overheated, this can happen if the console is near other electronic devices such as televisions, computers, vcr's, dvd players, etc. Also, be sure not to cover the vents on the console case.. Move the xbox to a safe, cool place, allow it to cool, then try booting again..
  • Simple. Your xbox is either defective or old. How old is your xbox? Because this happens to people to even non defective xboxs when they get old(er).
  • What exactly does being 'older' have to do with the xbox failure? I have computers (among other electronic device) much older than the xbox and they work just fine. What is your basis for making such a comment? I too am having problems like the original poster about the xbox not coming on. Mine is 2 years old, never been modified and never been opened (until tonight). The reason I opened it was to see if something came loose inside. Unfortunately everything looks fine, yet it doesn't work. The last time I used it was about 6 months ago, and today I went to set it up for my son and it just wouldn't come on. I'm actually pretty mad about it because this think looks brand new and have never been mistreated.
  • Have you checked to see if the power cord is good? wiggled it around while it is plugged in?. If that fails the power supply may be bad, the xbox power supply is like a computer's powersupply only small and not near as powerful bout 10o watts vs. a computers 400watts. It would not surprise me if that is the case, considering that the powersupply is exposed with out any cover of its own inside the xbox. I would take it apart and clean up the insides (there may be alot of dust from it sitting)....maybe there is a short. To do that u will need a tork wrench,a 10 and 20 i think.
  • I have the same problem. I mod xboxes for extra cash and i am good at it, i also troubleshoot and repair xboxes... however this one is new to me. I have tried the following: new powersupply, changing all other parts no matter how trivial, but still no video. The strange thing was it worked once and then it didnt. Strangely it works 1 out of say 25 times... doing nothing different. The light is always green and nothing seems wrong with the hardware. I just opened this xbox and looks just like new. Any ideas now that we know it is something with the motherboard?
  • Oh boy....there is a "code" for each color of the lights.....i would look for a question that asks what color light means what "think i saw one on this sight with the answer" and that should tell you what is wrong.
  • I have the exact same problem & I have no idea what the hell the problem is :/ This really pisses me off because my Xbox is only 1/2 a year old >:O I called 1-800-4myxbox the other day & i was told crap about sending my Xbox to Texas fo $100.00!!
  • to answer all your questions here is a fine solution worked well for me but you have to open your xbox and have some soldering skills. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/ComaConsole.htm
  • That xbox modder is true. Sometimes (rarely) my xbox will power up and the disc tray will open if I press it alot of times consecutively.
