Washing has little to do with lice. I wash my dog on a weekly basis, she can still pick up fleas if exposed either through being outside or with dogs with fleas. Same thing applied to children with lice - if exposed to lice carriers no matter how clean their hair, they can pick up lice. http://www.healthline.com/adamcontent/head-lice As the site says lice are not a sign of poor hygiene. The best you can do is continually check your child's head for lice, and when found treat immediately: Lotions and shampoos containing permethrin are usually effective. They are available over-the-counter. If these do not work, a doctor can give you a prescription for medicine that contain insecticides.

I had lice a lot as a child and we couldn't figure out why. Well I used all of the shampoos and they seemed to work fine and a week or so later I had it again. It turned out that although i used the shampoo i failed to treat my blankets clothes etc... Washing them helps but you have to treat them. Hope it helps.

Tell your child not to use anyone else's brush or comb, not to lend anyone theirs, not to wear anyone else's hat, or loan theirs to anyone. That's about it. Your child getting lice doesn't mean you are neglectful or dirty - it's pretty much par for the course if you send your child to school. As stated in the other answers - they are not that hard to treat - just be thorough.

lice like clean hair, so if you're washing their hair on a daily basis they may be more inclined to getting lice...

Rinse her hair after washing . Use Apple cider vinegar. It will also make her hair shine, and it smells good ,believe it or not

I have the same proble with my 9 year old, it is not us , who wash our childrens hair, with anti nit shampoo(which I have found useless.) it is 1 or 2 other kids whose parents aren't so fastidious, this is what I was told at the p.t.a.also if you continue to frequently douse the hair with the creams/shampoo it affects their hair, so I just keep on combing and once a week treat the hair. The only good news is it doesn't come back once they go to secondary, supposedly!

I have worked for years on child welfare cases. This is a big issue. I also have kids, but have only gotten the notice once this year. I am very suspicious of the chemical treatments but I know the following. The lice can't breath through mayonnaise. Any lice that happen to exist can be killed by covering your child's head with mayonnaise for a few minutes, as if it was a cream conditioner. However, you'd have to do this over the period of a week or so, since this method will not kill the nits (eggs). To the best of my knowledge, there is no "prevention" of lice. However, discussions with your child about: no hair play, sharing brushes, combs, or hair ties, etc., might help a wee bit.
