  • Well I recon half a cup of rice per day, which means how many grains per cup? Plus are we talking long grain or short grain rice? counting grains would be tedious, so a stab in the dark ummmm... fifteen hundred grains per day for the average rice eater!
  • There are about 1,000 grains of rice, before cooking, in a cup. One cup of cooked rice could be a big bowl of rice, or enough for two people with other things like mat or veggies. But in countries where they eat a lot of rice, they could eat up to 2 cups per person throughout the whole day.
  • Ok, lets think about this carful people. There are claims that 1000 grains of rice will fit into a cup, which we personally think is horrific. We decided to test this theory ourselves and personally (by hand) counted (using a single measure which contained, when full, approx 1000 grains of rice) a small cups worth of rice. It exceeded 10,000 grains of rice! Try it yourselves! Its jolly fun whiling away the hours....
  • The above numbers (1000 grains/cup) do not jive with this (8000 grains/cup): I went exploring and thought you might be interested in the results. I found the following information reported on the web: Well, first, I have to file a couple of disclaimers! All numbers based on long grain white rice Numbers should be considered approximate, not actual, as size of grains and other factors may vary. The Numbers: 1 lb of rice = 29,000 grains 1 lb rice = 4 cups 29,000/4 = 7250 ¼ cup = 7250/4 = 1812.50 An actual count of the number of rice grains in ¼ cup was around 2,000
