Concrete examples were those involved in the World War who were forced to leave their homes for safety and spent the rest of their life wandering in foreign lands. For me, it explains why I do the things I do. Even though the money has been gone for a few generations, the customs, our manners, the way in which we speak live on. Looking back is the connection. Looking forward keep me from expecting less of myself.

Genealogy got a huge lift with the 1970's TV show 'Roots.' There were always people who were interested in knowing who they were and where they had come from. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has always been doing genealogy work. They have trmendous resources at their disposal. In the past they had microfilmed records in court houses and other depositories around the world. I recently heard the Roman Catholics were no prohibiting this microfilming. What a shame!! Should those records ever burn or otherwise become destroyed, they will be lost forever.
