I've noticed people talking about "bullying" going on on AB. What do they mean and where is this happening? I'm confused.

I'm confused as well lady. For one, "bullying" is a relative concept. Example: Your kid and my kid fought at school. They kicked each other's nads like hell. For me, your kid is the bully. But for you, my kid is the bully. So who will decide who's naughty and who's nice? Santa Claus? Do we have to go to the Supreme Court just to resolve these petty fights?

Me too. I really don't know what bullying is taking place. There are plenty of disagreements but I don't see that as bullying, I think it's just going to happen when people disagree. I guess my trolls could be called bullies but I really think troll is as fitting a description as any. Something must be going on behind the scenes that we are not privy to is all I can guess.

I don't know. As the other's said, there are disagreements, but I dont think that counts as bullying, does it? Maybe we just havent noticed these incidents.

Check the thread indicated below. Read all the answers and the comment threads. You'll be amazed. http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/1620661 Here's small quote from Nevets' post that includes the definitions: "NOTE: Rude and angry comments are not bullying. Behaviours that classify as bullying include: following people, stalking, repeated personal attacks etc." That's why some of you don't see it; you may only see angry remarks on the board. What you don't know is that some people have been stalked outside of the AB board and actually threatened, even on their home phones.

Apparently I'm considered by some to be the biggest offender, so perhaps I'm the wrong person to answer this question. If you would please peruse my profile page and let me know here by posting a link to anything that may offend you in regards to my being a bully.

I'm not certain..I just know that the people who are claiming to have been bullied have, in fact, been really hurt. Nothing has happened that I have personally seen, however.

I saw this question and thought of a question about cats earlier...All the answer that agreed with the questioner(including mine) were downrated, while all the Feline folk got points up the litter box...

I see it sometimes. Sometimes it's mean and not deserved at all. Sometimes the individual is giving as good as they're getting and I'm not too concerned about it. No one ever said life would be fair. No one ever said AB would be fair. Best not to take it too seriously and remember that it's just a website. When you find out that a friend has a husband with perhaps weeks to live, all of this AB stuff becomes quite trivial by comparison and reverts back to its proper small place in the universe.

Not very often. I think the real story behind it is that many people find the same thing offensive and have something to say about it. I rarely flag questions, compared to waht I COULD flag.

Oh, I see it occasionally, but nothing like you've described. AND, knowing the people you've maligned with this question and your explanation, I know they DIDN'T do what you claim they did. Sorry... AB is world-wide, filled with people from ALL walks of life. When you state someone as strongly as you did with the cat question, you are going to get reaction from EVERYWHERE. Most of the people YOU say DRed you, would not... They would simply answer as they did, and leave it at that. And by the way, MANY would UPrate you, simply for stating your opinion as thoroughly as you did. As for "using the opportunity to gain loads of points for themselves"... Exactly HOW? By answering a question? Isn't that the point of the site? And few of those people you put down care all THAT much about the points. They prefer to meet people and get to know those who are willing to talk about things. Now, lighten up, and try to have some fun here, instead of throwing hissy fits. You might find a lot of those people WELL worth getting to know (whether they like cats or not!) LOL ;-)

Rarely. Pretty much just trolls. I looked up what you are specifically talking about, I think it was simple numbers. Not an organized effort. And, of course, the way you worded it had to be intentionally inflammatory. You had to expect the downrates.

You mean like your trying to ignight right now? With a question like this? Never. Not that I can remember anyway. Maybe cause I try to avoid seriously ugly quesitons that might seem to be involving the formentioned.

I have seen some in the past, but usually in the religious or politics section. I've never seen people getting points from it. Don't know how that would work out.
