  • How much it costs is dependent on many different factors. You could use a few cans of spraypaint and do it yourself fairly cheap-I say this, because I have seen people do it and it looks AWFUL. I would not recommend doing so. The type of vehicle is is an SUV, car, truck? The amount of paint can impact the price. Do you want to have the old paint stripped off or are you looking to just paint over the old color. The color is the real deciding factor. Standard vehicle paint in a typical color will cost less. A metallic or custom color costs significantly more. If you are doing more than one color, that ups the price too. The grade of primer and clear coat is another factor. If the difference in colors is drastic, expect to pay more because the cost of materials such as primer to cover the old paint (if that is the route you take) might be higher depending on how many coats are needed. Lots of factors. A cheap paint job can be as little as $200-400. In some places, a local high school auto body shop may do it "at cost" just to get a car to practice on. A better quality/custom job can cost several thousand. Decide on a color and finish and get a sample of it, make an appointment to have an estimate done, show them your sample and they should be able to give you a good idea of the cost. This is not an easy thing to "ballpark". I also recommend asking for references and checking the Better Business Bureau records (if available) before signing the dotted line with the shop of your choice.
  • Just to go into a little more depth into this question's answer, it costs a lot. To do it right, the engine has to be removed to paint the area in there, the door jams need to be painted, and its a long process to do it right. If u want someone to do it cheap, generally down the line, the paint will possibly fade and chip. Not that i know all the details, but my dad owns a body shop. One person came in and had just bought a new suburban, and wanted it to be painted another color. My dad simply told him, he should of bought it that color. Its too expensive to do.
  • To do the job right you can expect to pay about $3000 to $4000 provided that its a mid to full size 4-door car. Bigger vehicles will cost more due to the time and complexity factors.
  • As a Collision Manager for a Ford Dealer in NC, I would advise not to change the color for it will kill your resale value. If you don't like it that much, you should sell or trade for what you specifically want. The average starting price for a complete refinish starts at 2800.00 dollars and goes up from there. • My boyfriend has an 88 Honda Civic that was turned into a show car. The shop that did his car used House of Kolors paint in candy apple red. The base color is a silver and the candy paint is thin and is then put on top in about 12-14 coats so the flake shines through beautifully when the sun hits it. To paint his car like this the material used alone was 4 grand.
  • Someone hit my car, and I am going to need a new paint job. How much do you think it will run me. The damage was only on one side.
