LOADED question. My opinion? Because those people don't understand what breasts are for. Breasts are for feeding babies - PERIOD, end of story. Yes, they are enjoyable. But that is their function. There is nothing more natural and beautiful than a nursing baby or toddler. Some would argue that "urinating is natural, why don't I do that in public?" Well #1, it produces a waste that in America we choose to flush, and #2 in many countries people DO URINATE in public... and they nurse in public. And no one seems to mind. Becoming "civilized" has retarded us in many respects. Incidentally, I am a mama who nurses my 14 month old in public, much to the aggravation of many a moron.

Can't say why others find it that way but I can give you my experiance. for 19 years I never really experienced that or noticed it at least. Then I went to South Africa for 2 years. At first I was shocked to see a lady just start breastfeeding. This was because I never had the experiance(lack of a better word). After about 2-3 months it was normal for me and no shock. So I don't find it a problem at all I mean the baby has to feed as well and unless there is a problem with the mother I would suggest breastfeeding because there is a reason she creates the milk.

I was brought up in the 50's so it was always done behind closed doors or some where private. I am not disgusted by it I just am more modest to want to do it privately.

It's America with the problem. Why? because Americans are very prude!..... I know, I'm an American.

Because our society has marked the BREAST as a sexual entity. People have been made to feel the breast is taboo because it promotes sexual stimulation. When the reality is the breast is natures food for our species to thrive and flourish. If you breastfeed be PROUD!!!! You are doing as God and nature has intended. Them being a sexual stimulant is wonderful but secondary to there primary function.

Ignorance and prudishness are two of the main reasons. Yet, these same people don't seem to worry about posters showing scantily clad women showing a lot more breast than feeding mothers do. It's very hypocritical.
-
It's because of the way people have objectified certain body parts, not for what they are used for but for sexual excitement only. And then it's made worse by those that rebel by that idea and flaunt breastfeeding to prove a point. When done discretely and with modesty, it shouldn't offend people that have common sense and respect but it still does. It's really too bad that something that is so natural and wonderful can be thought so dirty and obscene.

Certain moral busybodies want to deprive women of any public identity as sexual beings. One way to do that is to become remarkably uptight about breasts, keeping them covered at all times.
-
Those people were sheltered as children and don't know what's natural in life I guess.
-
Because they are ignorant, and because they are too stupid to separate a natural, beautiful and nurturing act from the social mores dictating women cover their breasts in other circumstances. I once heard someone liken breastfeeding in public to urinating in public. I found THAT disgusting and appalling.
