Why is it that if a woman makes a witticism of a derrogatory or sexist nature, about men in general, most people (including men) laugh and find humor; however, if a man does the same, he is often times berated?

This is, I would say, because women were, for a long time, classed below men. It is in the same principle as if a black comedian makes fun of a white man, it's acceptable, but if a white comedian makes fun of a black man, he is "racist". Because women went through hardships of inequality for centuries, it is acceptable for them to make fun of a man in a sexist way, but men making fun of women shows reminiscent signs of previously held views. It is probably more of a subtle thing which has been programmed into us by society.

It is hypocrisy, women desire equality, but only the bits they consider good. Women in general were treated appallingly in the past, but this is no excuse for treating men with the same contempt now that denigrating women is no longer considered acceptable. Feminism is just chauvanism for women.
