    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

A person has to wait six months after a divorce has taken place before they are returned to single status and allowed to get married again in California. However, both parties in the divorce have to agree to the judgment of dissolution.

why does it matter?1 day,1 year,if you love each other even a year is fine to wait, you love each other, unless ones got big issues and need to rush so one can controll, manipulate or some other twisted reason behind the RUSH to marry.listen to this "HOW QUICK CAN I GET MARRIED AGAIN AFTER MY DIVORCE"sounds pretty stupid, sounds like...listen now...REBOUND...you rush along now you hear, the only positive to learn from this is you will know the answer the next time, all the best(unless the person you want to marry is 98 and worth millions, hurry with that marrige, move, move now, hurry up)

I wonder if the professionally researched Great Answer is correct. This is what I found:
Since 1/1/70, (and for actions filed before that date with respect to issues as to which no interlocutory decree or judgment had been entered by that date) a final judgment dissolving the marriage may be entered, upon the motion of either party or the court, 6 months after the date of service of summons and complaint or appearance of the respondent. Such final judgment restores each party to the status of a single person and after its entry either may marry.

It seems to me that a person in california is free to re-marry as soon as the marriage has been dissolved.

If that's California's law, that is a RIDICULOUS law. Someone should challenge it. A law cannot stand if it has no relationship with the health, safety and welfare of the citizenry. Their legislature would have been better served by working harder to save that state from bankruptcy.

Usually it takes about 6 months at least, but you may be able to do it quicker if you pay extra. Ask an attorney, they will usually answer those questions for free because they want to represent you in family court.
