If the town is accepting federal highway money and their jurisdiction has part of the interstate system through their town, they have authority to enforce traffic laws and investigate traffic accidents. this requires the officers to have additional training. In Nashville, we enforce all traffic laws on the four interstate highways throughout Nashville. we also investigate traffic accidents on the interstate, as well as local, state and federal laws, on the interstate. Only a few police departments have this authority. MNPD is one of them. Metro Nashville Police Dept., was probably the first in the nation, to do so. we are accredited.
