Would rubbing lemon juice on my freckles lighten my overall skin color?

    As a child, I was heavily freckled. My father once told me (and showed me) that he rubbed his nicotine-stained fingers with a cut lemon. I could not see that it made any difference. No one ever sugggested to me to rub my freckles with lemons, buttermilk, or radishes. I was told that time would take care of my freckles, and indeed it has.

    No. Lemon juice on the “freckles only” will not lighten all of your face. If the lemon juice does go onto your whole face it will even out your skin tones. As the freckles fade you would enjoy those even tones.

    Lemon juice is a great way to lighten the skin and a lot less expensive that skin whitener products. Used correctly it can even out the skin tones of the face, underarms as well as elbows and age spots.

    To exfoliate dead skin - Rub a cut lemon and a half-teaspoon of sugar over the skin for a few minutes. Done once a week freckles and darkened areas fade.

    For freckles you could try this too. Pat on buttermilk and leave to dry daily on the freckles. It helps to lighten them to a great extent. Applying the juice of the red radish daily and leaving it on the skin for one hour can also reduce freckles.

    BTW - Freckles are very beautiful.

    Edit - Apply lemon juice "directly" to your face twice a day and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. You can also apply it at night before retiring and wash it off in the morning after rising. This will also increase your sensitivity to sunlight so wear sunscreen when you go out.

    I Was Born A red Head and ended up with quite alot of freckles.didnt mind when i was younger.But now i do worry i am 16 and i am fed up with having freckles i personally think they are horrid and i want to get rid of them immediantly i know it may sound silly but i do hate them. Its about time i had a clear complexion!.Anyway there is plently of home remedies you can use and im sure youve looked at them all on the net.I was interested in trying Lemon Juice. So ive recently been using that, I buy the lemon juice plastic bottle that looks like a Lemon Ive tried others but i think this is the best one to be honest. i think lemon slices are rubbish. When you apply Lemon Juice(ONLY TO THE FRECKLES) use you finger tips i dont have a clue why but many people have been saying that, leave lemon juice on for..15-20 minutes.You can use it as much as u want i suggest 2-3 times a day.i use it in the afternoon and before i go to bed when i go 2 bed i leave it on all night and to wash it off use warmish water and dab with a towel afterwards.To Use Lemon Juice it is simple and it does help many of my friends have tried this.your freckles probably wont completely go but they will start to fade.Please give it a go if your tired of your freckles.Hope This Helps Guys. also try lots of fruity facemasks try to use them daily or any other creams/lotions. dont go for laser treatment theres no point and dont use freckle lotions from chemists they go wrong most of the time.by the way i tried vinegar that doesnt work. sorry i rushed this .GOOD LUCK PEEPS.

    I have been reading this forum and am really glad that I ran across it. I was in the process of possibly spending ALOT of money on laser treatment to try and get rid of my freckles on my forearms and shoulders. I read this and went to the store last night and bought the lemon juice in the plastic bottle that is shaped like a lemon. Is that what I should use or would a fresh lemon be better? I put it on with a cotton ball last night and washed it off this morning and re-applied for the day. How long does this normally take to notice a difference?

    Yes it will lighten skin but be careful I used a mixture of lemon juice and chamomile tea infusion made the tea first let it cool then added the lemon juice. It was meant to be to lighten the hair for someone it did but they got it on their forehead and now they look like they have that skin disease that Michael Jackson has where you loose melanin pigment from your skin. and their skin will no longer tan in that area, even artifical tanners wont work on that part of their skin anymore. It looks like a stronge tanning line as though he's wearing tanning makeup and forgot to do the top of the forehead he get's so much crap from his friends for it. so if you do it be careful that you do it evenly chamomile infusion made from pure leaves may help to lighten more if let cool and mix the lemon juice with it. I put it through a coffee filter paper to make sure the sedement wouldn't block the spray noozle make sure to keep away from the eyes.

    Lemon juice works. More info from Bartram's Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine; Freckles: Cold infusion of Cleavers (Galium aparine) tea 2-3 times daily and used as a wash on affected parts. Handful fresh Clivers (other common name is Goose Grass) simmered gently in 1 pint of water for 10 minutes. Rub affected parts with lemon juice or paste of bitter almonds and milk. Greek traditional: Lime flowers tea (wash). Remember if you are gathering herbs for medicinal or food use be sure that they are unsprayed (with chemicals) and grown on uncontaminated soil (ie. your backyard garden).
