Question

Help answer this question below.

My 1999 Grand Am sometimes accelerates itself without my foot on the gas pedal. When I pull over and put it in park, the RPM rose like I had my foot on the gas. What could be wrong?

Can you put your foot under the gas pedal and lift it to return to idle? If so, I'd say look for something sticking in the accelerator linkage. I had a frayed accelerator cable on a Chevy Astro of about that age that caused that.
