  • Check 2 things. Make sure the little tab on the "long label" side of the tape is still there. There is a small switch just inside the vcr that detects that tab. If this switch is broken it will think the tape tab is missing and think the tape is protected and not allow a recording.
  • Check your owners's manual. The DVD/VCR combos sometime have a button on the remote, marked as "T-set" or "Timer Set" that must be pushed to engage the timer. It's not like the older VCRs that just have to be powered off.
  • I don't know about that particular VCR but usually a red light means it IS recording, and a little stopwatch Icon on the LCD display on the front indicates that it is going to timer record
