  • I don't but someon people love books and dont see why would want to damage them. at school its so seriuos cuz theres not that many and its hard to get new ones.
  • If you mean collectors it's like anything , they just like the books to be in mint or very good condition as it adds to their value. If you mean just normal readers they probably want their books to look neat if they put them on a bookshelf. I won't put a scruffy book on a bookshelf , it stands out like a sore thumb.
  • I find it irritating to no end when i discover someone has written in a book...underlining, notes etc. i think its inconsiderate of the next person who may pick it up...
  • When I was young it was practically a criminal offense to deface a book. However, they were much more valuable then. Library books I would never damage intentionally--that is not my property to do so with. But now I will routinely mark passages and write in the margins of my own books..especially chinese dictionaries and stuff where I really need more information.
  • I for one do take the damage of books seriously. I think books are a tool and not a toy. They contain knowledge, so they should not be treated badly.
  • Because books are important. Where would we have been without books before the Internet? If I lend you a book and it comes back in worse condition than when you took it you will never borrow another book from me again. Of course, if you borrow my circular saw and you give it back to me with the motor burnt out you'll never borrow another power tool from me again. I could go on, chisels, saws, but you've got the picture.
  • Because they are SPECIAL! More than SPECIAL! If anyone rips or does anything to my Archie Comics, they shall get ready to be chased...
  • Library books-Their for peoples enjoyment, don't ruin it for everyone. My personal books-I spend a large amount of cash to own my (now rather huge) collection. If you're prepared to fork over the cash for the first printing of every Harry Potter book besides the first (I know they sell well above retail price) and willing to pay for my 700+ hard covered books, feel free to destroy them. Till than don't damage books.
  • You buy books to enjoy reading them, and almost always more then once! So we want to keep then in good condition for when we reread them.
  • Books are very important and only a misanthrope would stoop to denigrate society's compendium of knowledge.
  • Books are the physical manifestation of ideas..when you "burn" or "ban" books, you are trying to destroy the ideas they represent. That is very serious..the book burners are those who are so afraid of ideas they need to eliminate them and prevent others from learning about them..these are the self-righteous misfits of the world. Censorship by fear! Doesn't that worry you? :(
  • Books especially good books are to be preserved for posterity. Therefore we should take a serious view with regard to damage of books.
