  • It sounds like the spring on the throttle has been disconnected or has broken. Maybe the throttle has buildup and has a place for the air to enter. Does it only happen when its cold or anytime?
  • That's dangerous! You need to follow your acceleration control cable from the firewall into the engine compartment and to the throtle body and check to make sure nothing is caught on it. At the throtle body, there is usually a throttle return spring that must be attached at both ends and free from obstruction. Other than that, take it in for service.
  • Well this happens more and more often now, It usually starts up fine, but as I travel in regular and sometimes medium/heavy traffic it really "kicks in." What I do now is pull over to the side, turn the car off in drive, shift into park. While the car is off I then turn the ignition past the accessory engaging the fuel pump and other various lights. I'll try to cut the car back on and if it idles high, I shut it off immediately. Usually it takes after the third time and I'll get it under 1,000 RPMs. Then I'm good to go; sometimes it "kicks in" again and subsides other times it kicks in and I have to go through this process. Does this sound like a fuel pump/filter problem?
