nothing is here to make the trip worthwhile. It has a Rally's and Indiana University Northwest and my apartment. So like I said, nothing worthwhile.

Yes, I used to live there for about a year. The dunes are worth going for. They have arctic plantlife and cacti. There is a really good Chinese restaurant on Rt 20. Gary in general is a high crime area though....Beware!

Been THROUGH it a few times going to Chicago and Hammond, but don't recall ever having stayed there for any length of time.

Unfortunately yes. It's even nastier than Northern New Jersey or the Bronx.

Yes. The Wife and I go to Michigan every chance we get by following Interstate 65 north through Gary, Ind to take the scenic route into Michigan where we are looking for a house. Things down here are getting too crowded. Waking up in these sub-divisions is ridiculous! Houses practically popping up overnight.

Yippers. Drove through it once, and the stench and nasty view did absolutely nothing to encourage me to stop and help the local economy by eating or getting gas. That was more than 20 years ago and I don't see myself going back.

Yes, on the way to Chicago once and it smelled disgusting- I could barely breath and everything was ugly and on fire.

I have been to Gary a few times. It's not the shining example that rest of Indiana should be judged by.

I live 20 minutes away. Love the dunes, and airshow they have there!! Some parts are bad, some aren't THAT bad.. some people exaggerate the way it looks.. on Rt 6 going through town isn't pretty.. but Gary was once a beautiful town!! So sad to see it like it is.

yes I was born and raised here also raised my family here and like other cities yes it has gone down but it is a nice place to live. the areas in Gary are no different than your hometown areas some good some bad. There are plenty of warm goodhearted people who would give you the shirts off their backs.

Yep yep been there quite a few times. My friend lives there so I go and visit her occasionally. She has never had any problems living there and loves the community. I don't understand why gary has gotten the reputation it has, it's not that bad.
