I've heard that it is painless. Since they can't talk, it would be helpful to bring them back if they ever get lost.

Well, I think it is a great idea because it's great when you lose your pet, obviously. It's not good when a person finds your pet and doesn't intend on taking it to a vet or local animal shelter to find the microchip because then they won't be able to know who you are, so an identification tag on the collar is a good idea.

I have two cats and both are microchipped. It was a really quick procedure and didn't appear to cause any discomfort to either of them. I think it is a brilliant idea as the animal only needs to be scanned and can then be returned home. I know I'm a bit of a softie but it would break my heart to lose either of my cats and the chip provides a glimmer of hope that they will be returned.
