  • Ok I dont know how long you have had your new tank running for!!!?? But lets say you just set it up!! You have to cycle your tank So that means you have to give it time for the good bateria to start growing! So I think your tank is smelling due to the fish wasting and there is no good bacteria to eat the bad stuff!! give it a week and see how it does! And if it does not work the I would do I 1/4 water change But do not change all your water then you will be starting the cycle over!! I hope that helped!!!
  • Probably smells like ammonia. When you set up a tank it has to go through a cycle to collect beneficial bacteria... It can take anywhere from a week to a month (even longer in some cases). During that stage you want to keep your tank as stable as possible, don't add any extra fish, and don't do water changes, simply top off the tank as needed. It should be done once you notice your nitrites at 0 ppm.
