I think you asked and answered the first question. Gay people don't seem to have an irrational fear of straight people. I guess that's because without straighters, there won't be any more gays born down the line. :-/ As for the second question, its just possible that gay people really are happier and maybe because of that, a little bit nicer, too. :-D

Probably because you don't get gangs of gay people roaming the streets going, "Hey, there's a breeder! Get him!" Gay people have all spent most of their lives, and almost certainly their formative years, among straight people. They see heterosexuality as just as normal as homosexuality (because everyone around them is), whereas the average straight person does not know many gay people, or if they do, they don't know that they know. Gayness is still something 'freaky' in many minds. Gay people are not 'free' to express fear of straights, because then everyone yells "Reverse discrimination!" not to mention that expressing that fear would involve coming out as gay, which in many situations is still dangerous for them. I'm going to stop typing now before I stop making sense... long day. ^_^ (Mind you, I'm bisexual, so I'm very NOT trying to insult ANY sexual orientation. Apologies if I've come off that way- I tried very hard not to.)

I have actually met heterophobes, so I am sorry to say that it does work both ways. IMO, as gays get more rights, you will see more overt heterophobic action. It is the nature of humanity to exert power over those who differ.
