That's not very practical, considering the heat and the fact we live in the US, not 1902 Italy. Of course, some folks stick with traditions and have inhibitions that sometimes seem completely insane to the rest of us. I feel sorry for the girl, if I were her, I'd go find some longer length shorts and demonstrate to him that they're the same length as if she were wearing a dress.

I would be the worst parent because I would be so overprotective. I'd be the type to let her do whatever she wanted, but I would be a constant chaparone until she turned 18. If I had a kid (especially a daughter), I would feel sorry for any boy she dated. Another reason I'm not going to have kids.

over the years I have noticed that European men but more so Greek,Italian,Lebaneese etc are more protective of their daughters...and in Australia shorts are what you wear ...guys and girls all different styles but all still shorts ...you could buy some of the longer legged shorts for her this may appease you brothers worries and still keep your girl cool:)

I live in Florida, and my religious beliefs dictate that I do not wear shorts or even slacks. I wear dresses, skirts, and long sleeves every day of the year. It's never hurt me. Frankly, I think girls would benefit from having a bit stricter rules concerning their attire. Especially in places like Florida, where skin cancer is such a common occurrence. Wearing a pair of light slacks or a skirt will keep you cooler than shorts, and keep you from getting sunburn. I am personally tired of seeing young girls dressed like total tramps because "it's hot in Florida". It's a disgusting excuse.
