This is most likely a thermal problem. Equipment with temperature-related problems usually work properly when first turned on (i.e., cold) and fail after the unit has warmed up. If the television works fine after it has been turned off for a few hours, it is certainly a temperature-related fault.

The problem could be in the power supply, perhaps a defective thermal circuit breaker if one is present. The problem could be just about anywhere, but is severe enough to cause a circuit breaker to trip. In addition, some solid state components simply stop working if they are defective and overheat. Apart from stating the problem is temperature-related, there is little diagnosis that can be done without examining the unit.

If the television is still under warranty, get it repaired. If it is not covered, but still fairly new, you should probably have it repaired if you think it is good enough to warrant the expense. Simple repairs will cost somewhere around $100 to $150.

Footnote: White-Westinghouse, like many older US brands (e.g., RCA, Zenith), do not manufacture consumer audio-visual products for themselves. The design and manufacturing is handled by offshore electronics manufacturers. Many of these products can be considered discount consumer goods and lack the quality, both in terms of the component/build quality and the audio/video quality, of products from companies such as Panasonic (Matsushita) and Sony. Unfortunately, discount audio-video products usually have a higher failure rate, requiring repairs or replacement. This is often reflected in the warranty, with some products providing a warranty coverage of less than one year - a sure sign of a cheaply-made product.
