It's a cloud thing. Most Navy planes are the same "haze Grey" as our ships.

I recall reading somewhere that the "best" color (in terms of making the plane hard to see) for Air Force planes would be a light pink, but there's no way in Heck that the uber-macho military pilots would fly a pink plane...:-D...

Army, Marine, and low-flying "attack" aircraft are usually forest/army green - at least on top and sides, though the higher fliers are grey-blue on the bottom. Navy fighters used to be bright blue on top and haze/blue-grey on the bottom. Night fighters and stealth aircraft are flat-black.
