The accepted protocol for gratuity is: #1. 15% of the bill if the server did just what their job required and no more. #2. 20% if the server took your order within five minutes of your being seated, kept track of the orders up and delivered yours promptly. Plus the item in #1 #3 25-30% if the server asked about your satisfaction within a couple of minutes after serving and #1 and #2. #4. 35-45% or more (Hardly ever realized) if your server makes you feel like you are the only customer he has and your wish is his command. #5. 2 or 3 cents left to let your server know he was terrible. Leaving nothing could be interpreted as forgetting to tip. But three pennies gets the message across.

I tip great if I get good service, I don't tip a penny if I get bad service. I do take things into consideration... if they are new, yes I give them a break, if they are busy, I give them a break. If they are just a lousy waiter / waitress they don't get anything.

If we get really great service, we tip 20%...if we get good service, maybe 10-15%..if we get lousy service..well, maybe a buck, maybe not! :)
