Yes; however, be sure to tell your family well in advance that you will not be attending. Also, explain that your friend is alone for the holiday and you would like to spend some time with him/her. Your family will understand. Maybe be sure to stop by at some point in the day if your father's celebration is nearby.

Invite your friend to spend holiday with your family. If your family gets too annoying, enjoy your friend's company and let the family be less of an issue. Family is very important, but so are friends. Try to make the best of both. Maybe when your family meets your friend, there will be less reason for you to be reluctant to be with them. It might also help in your relationship with your dad.

I think if you give enough notice that you won't be in attendance for the holiday this year a reasonable family would be okay with it. If at the last minute you just don't show up or flake on someone who is expecting you, that is disrespectful.
