  • The role of the monarch is to act as ceremonial Head of State. The monarch has virtually no powers and if one of them chose to use what power they do have in a way that opposed the will of Parliament he or she would quickly find that the power had been removed. Having a monarchy brings in millions of pounds worth of tourist income every year, so this probably represents the most useful function of monarchy in Britain.
  • She plays Scrabble
  • Her purpose is the same as any other Head of State. You have a president, we have a monarch.
  • shes sat on her bum drinking tea.
  • I have no idea, I think the purpose is its religion...a Custom, I guess she goes to balls and special events...
  • I'm pretty sure she practices that "wave"...got to make sure nothing jiggles when she does it.
  • She's just like us........struts around in her underwear all day..........No bra.....She does'nt even have the decency to at least shut the curtains.
  • Why, shes here.. on AB.. didnt you know???? Heck i cant get her off the laptop sometimes!! lol
  • Her purpose is to "reign" - to be the symbolic head of state. She is no more functional than a flag on a flagpole, which neither provides shade nor protects from the rain. Because we have the Queen as the Head of State, we are much more relaxed about other things. For example, we don't get upset about burning our flag: if you paid for it, you can burn it. As to what she does all day: she has official appointments on 250+ days of the year, about the same number of working days as any worker (and remember that she is over 80) and usually has several appointments on each day. Opening things, receiving ambassadors, presenting honours etc. Lots of little ceremonies that make people see that the world is being "properly run". The basic function of the monarchy is to make people feel warm and comfortable about the country, and that their town/organisation/personal contributions are recognised by "the country". This she does very well.
  • She has always done and still does work very hard going to many official appointments. Im ont a monarchist as I view it as undemocratic. However I am a big fan of the queen and the hard work she does. I dislike the principal of a monarchy but the practice of it is very good. Apart from the huge amounts of torusim it brings in - she helps get many business delas approved by holding functions, she is a great role model and has never abused her power. Unlike some of her predecssors.... So I hope she goes on for a long itme like her mother did.... She is over 80 now and should really be slowing down...
  • She watches Coronation Street and Little Britain while eating fried cheese sandwiches.
  • She oversees the production of English Muffins.
  • I don't know, I'll call her on her cell and ask her.
  • The real purpose of the modern day Monarchy (as it was in the Ancient Monarchy) is to provide and represent, both toward and on behalf of the people, a spirit and ideal of nobility, excellence, majesty, stability and unity above the ever changing and ever so common political currents within a democracy. The Queen does have powers if the democratic process fails. Only once during Queen Elizabeths reign did she have to exercise these powers and in fact appoint a prime minister. Tourism and attraction are the consequences of this ancient institution NOT the main reason of its existence. This understanding would be crass and vulgar and intellectually lacking in the full breadth and scope of the excellence that the Monarchy brings through its covenantal (not political contract) relation with the people. This ideal and representation of excellence (or Excellency)forms a greater and higher bond than common politicians or the common consumer-driven political process could ever possibly bring. The beauty, majesty and excellency of the Monarchy is to represent the good and true ideals of a nation or society. Thus reflecting or mirroring back to itself those good and true and beautiful ideals that are the Excellency of what the nation is to be and is to become. Without the Monarchy all that is left is a society that reflects back to itself the low ideals of mere pleasure and usefulness. In other words a society based on hedonism and utilitarianism is a society on par with the animal world. The ideals of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty found within the Excellency of the Monarchy will reveal a society to be one that is above the baser world of mere human pleasure and usefulness and raise it to the heights of a noble society. The Monarchy and society act as a mirror one to the other. With the Monarchy glorious and strong you will find a society which is greatly noble. With the monarchy weak or abolished you will also find a society that is greatly vulgar and driven by lower base passions.
  • i would not want that job, it would be too stressful and all those peolpe saying she does nothing must drive her crazy, i would use the xmas day speech to show a list of all the things the queen has to do then say there welcome to try it for a day but mind the asasins, there like cockroaches
  • Someone does it for her thats why and shes no different to us ITS ANNOYING......
  • To me the important thing about the monarch is that she is in command of all our armed forces. They swear loyalty not to parliament, but to her. This, to me, makes an important safety valve. I hope we never get in this position, but supposing an extremist government got into power, and democracy failed. If the government tried to impose military rule, the Queen would be in a position where she could prevent this from happening, and could, indeed, depose the government if it came to it. I certainly feel more secure with this safety valve in place, and that is mainly why I am a monarchist.
  • To sit in her chair and look like a cute old lady, ever senior's purpose. lol
