    "Something Bad Has Happened"
I think we've all seen this error! I believe it applys really well here.
Just for S & G 's is the inside of your case dusty and is there lint and dust build up on the CPU fan & power supply vents and fan?
how much air is able to get though vents in fronts of case?
if any of this is there, all could have lead to overheating of CPU, and now it most be replaced and check power supply to see if it is working right at same time. Hope no other damages done.

It just burns.Over heating. You need to replace it and it is a good idea to use a new fan when you replace a CPU (even if the old fan works with your new CPU

that is because your CPU has overheated. put your computer somewhere where it is cold and breezy, if you cant find anyplace, switch on a fan. let it run for a while. afterwards take the cpu out and get it checked to see if it still can be used, if not buy a new. never use a cpu which has been overheated. y? bcoz it means its been burnt. and nearly was close to being fried into pieces.

the CPU is obviously frying, perhaps due to a non functioning fan.

It's obviously overheated, did you block the air flow into the internal part of the computer? Perhaps you need to go into BIOS. Did your computer start bleeping before it started smoking?

You have heard of the expression, “It’s all smoke and mirrors”? Well in the case of electronic devices, it is literally true. All electronic devices work on contained smoke. By careful use of smoke within the chip light beams can be either blocked or allowed to pass carrying information. The smoke is generated by a small Cesium Oxide Wrangle – Carbon Hydrogen Ionic Positioner (COW-CHIP) kept in the L2 cashe on the CPU. If the cow-chip fails this may cause a cascading failure to the Dual Inline Parallel Serial Handoff Terminal. When this goes into failure it can generate enough excess heat to actually melt a small hole in the plastic casing and allow the smoke to escape. Without the smoke, no blocking of the light beams in the chip can occur and all mirrors assume a positive state.

In short if the cow-chip goes dip-sht, the smoke goes out and it stops working. Any electronic device that has smoke coming out of it stops working.

    I hope that explains it.

Your computer is spontaneously combusting. I suggest putting as much distance as possible between you and it and calling the fire dept.

If you have smoke coming from your CPU dude, your first step should be unpluging everything and putting the damn things outside, clear of all buildings or structures

It's time for a new processor. If there is smoke then it must be an Intel chip. They tend to get really hot.

Actually, it all depends on what color the smoke is.
In my experience, if the smoke is whiteish-gray, and it is followed by 2 fast beeps, than that usually is an indicator that a internet bug, or worm, has infested the CPU heatsink, and is cooking all the juices inside it, which in turn flow down upon the motherboard, and the RAM, which burn these juices, the smoke from the burning is then drawn up by the case fan, and exhusted out the back where you, the user see this smoke.
    Glad I could help.

You computer may have collected dust, animal hair and dirt which has sat in your hard drive for a while stopping air from cirualting round the computer. Your computer is facing bad conditions thus the CPU rising and with no air getting round and heat it begins to smoke

Just try and boost the fan speed, or get a new computer.
