  • Simply put anatomy is the study of the structure of living things

    physiology is the study of how the structures functions.

    Heart is a muscle = anatomy

    Heart pumps blood to circulate it threw the body = physiology

    also anything ending in the suffix ology means study of

    for instance bio means life biology means study of life

    Edit: Thank you for the rating I will tell my Anatomy professor you said that. Maybe I get an extra point or two on my final jk jk

    In terms of definition? OK direct from the dictionary to you;
    "Anatomy: the branch of morphology that deals with the structure of animals."... Hmmm...
    "Morphology: the branch of biology that deals with the structure of animals and plants. Allow me to choose another dictionary too many branches of ology in that one.

    "Anatomy: study of structure of body: the branch of science that studies the physical structure of animals, plants, and other organisms
    and
    Physiology: study of functioning of living things: the branch of biology that deals with the internal workings of living things, including functions such as metabolism, respiration, and reproduction, rather than with their shape or structure
    In non dictionary speak anatomy is about what and where a body part is, physiology is about what the part does and how it does it.
    Anatomy comes from O.Fr. anatomie, from Gk. anatomia, from anatome "dissection," from ana- "up" + temnein "to cut," and as we all know, "The scyence of the Nathomy is nedefull and necessarye to the Cyrurgyen" [1541] Physiology comes from L. physiologia "natural science, study of nature," from Gk. physiologia "natural science," from physio-, comb. form of physis "nature" + logia "study." Meaning "science of the normal function of living things" is attested from 1615. Physiology is not as important to the surgeon as it is to the fisicien.
    We also have the use of the words in a "non-study of" sense. Anatomy can just mean the structure of the body, physiology can mean the functioning of it. As in "I have the physiology of a Greek God, but the anatomy of an odd geek." (I gotta get me a Olde English spell chequer.)
