Aside from populating the planet (which I think we've been fairly successful at), why do people have children?

Cause it is what we are here to do is to grow up and have kids .Some girls have kids to fit in or to get spoiled by parents and for other reasons.lol.I say that cause of real life situations and i see it all the time.

Because there is a primal, natural urge to pass along your genetic coding, not to mention your values, morals, ethics, and knowledge so that the species might continue to grow and flourish. Children are what make life worth living. They're a balm to the adult soul, that's for sure. If you have any question what the world would be like without the laughter of babies, read "The Children of Men" by P.D. James. Or see the movie. Both are excellent. And if you don't wanna have a baby after that, just to prove it's still possible, you're probably not human. ^_^

Perhaps to pass on their legacy. Have someone to look after and who *hopefully* respects you. I've also heard that having a baby is like having a dog that slowly learns how to talk. Thats pretty awesome.

We are the descendants of millions of generations of parents *every single one of whom* had children. The family habit is a family trait.
