Why would someone feel silly saying "I love you"?

I'm always uncomfortable with telling anyone that. Even my own parents. It's a sad but true fact. I've never really figured out why. I'm very insecure, which probably plays a big factor. I just don't like leaving myself open and vulnerable. I'm a very guarded person most of the time.

People don't often want to share their feelings for fear of rejection and humiliation. It can feel silly, especially when one doesn't say it/hear it often.
