I think its totally fine since if its what you want, its okay. I guess just so its not hot pink then were fine.

if he wants to, it's up to him. as long as it's a color that looks natural...and doesn't look like he's just colored it. heck, I turned gray in my early 20s....and my mom hadn't turned gray yet. how fair is that? I've colored my hair ever since. and my mom is 69 and still has less gray hair than I do! but, I picked a color that looks natural with my skin tone.

I don't know about highlights,but dying the hair to the natural colour is a good idea.Many associate age with gray hair,and one appears much older then they are.
