I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT CATS, BUT MOTH BALLS WILL KEEP SNAKES AWAY. I USE THEM IN THE BASEMENT AND UNDER THE BUSHES OUTSIDE.I SAW A BLACK SNAKE IN ONE OF MY BUSHES AND I THREW A FEW MOTH BALLS UNDER THE BUSH. A FEW MINUTES LATER OUT HE CAME AND AWAY HE WENT.

Yes, the ubiquitous mothball! Citrus works really well, too, because dogs and cats alike hate the smell of citrus.
