The Stanley Hotel is located in Estes Park, Colorado. It was built by the inventor of the Stanley Steamer automobile. The hotel is operational. Actually, it is a very ritzy hotel in excellent condition.

According to the International Movie Data Base, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081505/trivia , "The Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood in Oregon was used for the exteriors, but all the interiors were specially built on a soundstage in London, England." The Timberline Lodge is still in business: here is it's website: http://www.timberlinelodge.com/ . The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, was the original inspiration for Stephen King's book, and was featured in the 1997 TV movie.

Actually it was called the over look in the movie, but the real name of the hotel, Is the Stanley Hotel. Trust In That, I love Kubrik movies.
