Question

Help answer this question below.

Why is it my more expensive pens tend to have problems writing on notepads and such and only work well when I'm writing on a hard surface? I always have to revert back to a cheap Bic or something because my nice pens just stop working.

I run into the same thing. Seems like any pen that takes an insert/refill cartridge sucks these days. I turn an expensive pen upside down for 5 seconds and it stops working, but the cheap roller-balls write fine after being in a 130 degree or -20 degree car for 12 hours.
