You could, but it wouldn't be the same as TV really does addle the brain. When you watch TV it sets your brain in beta waves instead of alpha waves and it's sort of like being in a coma. They are the same brainwave as coma patients have. That's a scary thought! Maybe that's why children seem to zone out when watching. It's like they are in a stupor.

i think tv is more apt to addle our brains than too much reading!!

How does one read "voracially?" Is this only reading books avidly written by one particular race? Or about one race? Perhaps you mean "voraciously." :o) In today's society, for "books" I would substitute "text messaging." That seems to have addled quite a few brains, if spelling and grammar are any indications.

I believe it was a character from a Jane Austen novel who said this......but I could be mistaken. I read voraciously, as does my whole family. And, no, I don't believe we would ever "have to substitute t.v. for books"...but that is what is happening in the computer/t.v. age, sadly.

If reading books addles today's brains, then tv and internet have eviscerated them. In other words, I think getting our brains addled would be a definite step up for us. Without tv, internet, games...these people had nothing to do for leisure except read, maybe write letters, knit, do needlepoint, do outdoor sports....yawn
