Can an autopsy performed on a 30-year-old corpse determine the exact cause of death?

    They've done it before. Alot of unsolved murders or deaths that become suspicious because of later bad acts are solved this way.

    Very unlikely. By this time, all of the soft tissues would have decomposed, leaving only the skeleton behind. However, if the cause of death was caused by physical trauma, such as a hole in the skull or a broken neck, then that would be the probable cause of death.
