  • It's not room temperature then either, and you're watering it down. Don't bother. Forget what you "should" do and do what you like in this case.
  • No! Absolutely not! Not only would that chill it, it would water it down. You're crazy, man.
  • ARGGGGH! Please do not put ice in your red wine. If you do not like wine unless it is chilled, stick to white. Ice will melt, water down the wine, ruin the nose as well as the palette. The cold also interferes with the flavors, so NO! NO! NO!
  • If you are going to chill it, chill it in the refrigerator, not with ice in it. Keep in mind "room temperature" is typically wine stored in a cellar and is more like in the 60 degrees zone, even as cool as 55, not 70+. If it is too hot, you should chill red wine a bit. It shouldn't be ice cold though, and not watered down with ice. Again like someone else said though, drink it the way YOU enjoy it. Wine is meant to be enjoyed. You don't HAVE to follow all the rules.
  • You can do whatever the hell you want with your wine. That's why they call it *your* wine.
  • From my experience, a lot of French people chill their red wine, although I always thought it's supposed to be served at room temperature. In Spain they apparently drink it with Coke (kind of like a red wine spritzer), which is actually quite nice.
  • People need to drink wine the way they like it best. Generally rose, white zinfandel, and white wines are chilled more than reds. Reds should be served around 60-65 degrees, which is colder than any of the rooms in my house.....so it would even be "proper" to chill it for awhile. I'd chill the wine in the refrigerator to the temperature at which you'd want to drink it. NO ICE as this will dillute the wine.
