  • Huskies are beautiful Dogs very loyal and loving. They do shed, but are very intelligent and easy to train. I had two siberian huskies and one american husky years ago....THEY RUN AND ROAM... I would not suggest this breed unless you have a BIG fenced in area that is very secure. Mine chewed through chain link. Every dog is different but Huskies do want freedom. They are great around children and are decent protectors. I never had a trouble house training them although they did get hyper at times. Feeding them depends on how many you have and what food you buy. My bag of dog food (SOLID GOLD) costs about $40 per 30 lb bag and lasts me one month for my german shepard Huskies are about the same. There are cheaper dog foods though!
  • I am a cat person who has a few dog friends. My very best dog friend ever was a Siberian Husky, my best friend's dog. The dog was gorgeous, with the trademark blue eyes. He smelled good - they don't sweat the odor that most dogs do. He was graceful - could step over and through a kid's monopoly game and never move a single piece. He was calm, quiet, clean, and well-mannered. If I ever had a dog, that's the one I'd get.
  • I grew up with a husky as a member of my family - I absolutely adored her. She was a wonderful pet. Good points - very loving, great with kids, active, soft coats (great for petting!), intelligent and beautiful The sound of their howl is amazing (didn't happen often, but it was beautiful to listen to) Bad points - often prone to digging, shed A LOT, great escape artists (and very fast runners - so good luck catching up once they've taken off!), very intelligent (yes, under bad point - they seem to be able to decide whether or not they wish to obey your command, even though they definitely know what you want.) Did I mention escape artist? They can jump fences, dig under fences, chew through fences, wiggle through tights spots... you'll have to check their enclosure for possible escape routes on a regular basis, and make sure your fences are high, with no gaps. You pretty much NEVER see one that can be trusted off leash. Not always good with cats or other small animals (it's definitely not across the board, as there are always exceptions - but many are only good with humans and other dogs) Here are some links with more information: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/2595/huskybefore.htm http://www.fluffydogs.com/siberian-husky-dog-breed/siberian-husky-training/171/ http://www.huskycolors.com/siberian.html http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/siberianhuskyfaq.htm
  • Where do you live? Watch your Husky closely in summer if you are in the "lower 48". They are bred for cold climes. They are susceptible to many parasites non-existant in their homeland. And be careful of them overheating. This is true of all dogs, but especially of Huskies, Labs, Spitz, etc. Yes, they like to run. That is what they were bred to do. Let them have exercise often. If you are urban, then put a leash on them and run with them. It will be good for you, too. If you can't do this, you probably don't need to be owning a Husky. Sorry, but dogs are different..and no-one needs to own a dog they cannot properly care for. And the dog does not need them...
