People now are kind of obsessed with those hideous Croc things. I also remember a time when little girls were obsessed with those weird flip-flop things called Floaties.
-
G'day Cowboys22, Thank you for your question. I am so old that I cannot remember having cool shoes that everyone had to have. Regards
-
Sadly for a few years in the 80's it was Velcro sneakers. They were actually cool for a couple of years until they became lame again.

Well when i was a teenager, the 'in' shoes were called Sacha's and you had to buy them from the Sacha shoe store, (only located in cities).. i begged my mother for a pair, they were big platform really ugly shoes in black with beige stitching.. but i HAD to have them. I saved up (they were about £20 and that was about 1979) and my mum took me to Glasgow for a pair!! i was over the moon... think i wore them for about a year lol... oh i loved those shoes, even when i fell down some stairs in Woolworths and had to have stitches in my shin.. they were everything to me!! lol

When I was around 6 it was Clarks leather sandals... they had a key in the sole that you could use to open up some thing on the side. They were mainly intended for school, so they looked sensible. Unfortunately for me at the time, my parents always insisted I had my feet professionally measured and fitted for shoes, lest they suffer the effects of ill fitting shoes. The Clarks sandals with the key didn't fit me, and so I never had a pair. Nor was I allowed to wear trainers (sneakers), which meant I never got to experience the pleasure of having a transparent plastic bubble containing a concerned looking Polly Pocket on the side of them. I used to fantasise about cutting that bubble open to add a new Polly Pocket to my set after the trainers no longer fitted me.

My step mom and my dad didn't care about "in" styles or "cool" stuff. They cared about durability and practicality, so for the most part my brother and I always got a new pair of Buster Brown shoes before school. He got black I got brown, that's why the one year I actually got some "in" shoes I remember it SOOOOO well. I got given a brand new pair of Nike white with the red and blue stripe and insignia on them. I wore those until the bottoms fell off.
