  • Technically, you can put any engine you want into a vehicle. BUT- It must pass inspection based upon your local laws. Some states have strict emissions regulations, whereas some states have no inspection at all. If you DO have a state inspection, the vehicle must be equipped with all emmission control components that it would have had from the factory. For instance, in North Carolina, only vehicles 1998 and newer must pass the OBD-II Emissions tests, but anything prior to that just has to pass basic safety inspeciton. I personally own a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 with a 350ci engine in it. It IS street legal, because it DOES in fact have catalytic converters on it. Hope this helps.
