I am not a Tennis player but have competed in wrestling and been successful in many tournaments. To get over nervousness do not follow the progress of the other players, do not watch their matches and do not follow the progress of the brackets. You need to realize that the only things you can control are the things that you do. You can't control how the other players are going to perform. Get yourself an ipod or walkman and allow the music to distract you. Choose relaxing music for your down times and uplifting music for the times right before you are going to compete.
When you are idle and waiting for your opportunity, find quiet places to relax and rest.

Your diet is also very important, you want to be "fueled up" properly when it is time to compete, but do not rely on sweets and junk food. Eat good foods that supply energy over long periods of time not foods that give you a quick burst as these will wear off too quickly during a long Tennis match and fatigue will set in.

When your # is called you need to be well rested and well fed. Especially if you have to play multiple opponents in the same day.

Be confident in your own abilities and do not doubt that you can win, even when you are up against a better ranked player or someone who beat you before. Anyone can be beaten on any given day and you have to believe you are the person who can do it.

Good Luck and I hope I helped, even if only a little.

I've never played in a real tournament, so speaking purely from experience of a recreational player I would suggest that you should have confidence in yourself and your shots. :) Like all sports, tennis is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. If you can control your emotions and your confidence you will be able to play at your maximum potential. If, and you probably will, you make mistakes, don't be discouraged--have confidence that you've worked hard and so long as you're trying your best that's all you can do. Focus on your strengths and if your coach has told you about your weaknesses, only try to focus on improving/changing one thing about your game that you've always found to challenge you and then playing will be much less of a burden. Good luck!
