What are some common reasons that homeowner's application for insurance would be rejected?

  • The most common reason for rejections is frequency of loss/claims, not to be confused with the dollar amount paid by the Insurer for a particular claim. For example, if you filed five claims with a total payout of $2,000 you would be more likely to get rejected than the applicant who had one claim for $200,000. Typically a loss/claim history for a new applicant is reviewed as far back as five years.

    Other reasons may include the following: poor credit, the home is poorly maintained, liability exposures (certain breeds of dogs owned), and so on.
