Help answer this question below.

2 new vcr/dvd's hooked up to my 4-year-old samsung tv did not show anything on the tv screen (setup menu or picture or sound from vhs or dvd), yet the recorders were on and functioning. Is the problem in the television?

try hooking it up to another tv, if it works, the problem is in the first tv. However, I suspect your problem is in the wiring, which can get fairly confusing.
