When it comes to video cards, are dual 256 MB cards with SLI better than one 512 MB card?

    Hi,

    Not really. Whatever system you use (SLI or Crossfire), two cards will never be better than one, since except for the RAM total, performance doesn't add up. We experimented with two X1300 Radeons with a friend of mine, and bottom line (although they both had 256MB each), they couldn't even reach the performance level of a single 6800GT (256MB). So, there you have it. It all depends on the cards GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) you're talking about. If the cards you're asking about are newer, most probably they won't be able to outperform a single one (until you hit extreme resolutions above 1600x1200 that is, where the performance gain is minor).
