Look at life as try to go up an escalator thats moving downward.. ur aim is to get to the top (Achieve ur dreams/ wishes, etc.) for tis, u hav to go faster than the escalator.. if u even reach halfway up, u'd still hav to keep going (read improving) to even stay where u are... the moment u stop, u wont remain whr u've gotten to, but u'll keep going down. Coz even if u dont improve, life (work, ppl, surroundings, attitudes, etc) do, so its essential for us to do so to, to avoid becoming obsolete. that's the best way i cud attempt to explain n answer ur question.

Because eventually we'll be able to do everything in no time at all and everyone will have everything they want and ... oh, hang on. ... and we'll be able to make everything in no time at all and so then everyone else will lose their jobs so they won't have any money with which to buy anything so the boss will get poorer so then the boss will tell us to slow down and stop building high quality stuff that never breaks 'cos that way we'll create lots of unnecessary jobs and give people unnecessary money so they can work their guts out trying to buy inferior crap that breaks all the time. Is that clear?

Without improvement you cannot reach a higher level. If you cannot reach higher level then you cannot succeed in business. By improving your work you are not only growing your chance of success but you are also growing as a human being. Knowledge is power!

As human beings we are born with an enormous amount of potential. Potential means absolutely NOTHING if it is not realised. We will probably never reach our full potential but we can approach it. We can improve. No matter how bad you are at something you CAN get better at it. No matter how good you are at something there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Another reason to continuously improve is that if YOU don't improve your competitors probably will and then you will become redundant (at best) and obsolete (at worst). Continuous improvement is a great way to advance in your career and to keep your job (at least).
